High-Density Joint Actuator by Neugart and Synapticon Nominated for automationsBest Award 2026

The High-Density Joint Actuator jointly developed by Neugart and Synapticon has been nominated for Wiley's automationsBest Award 2026. Integrating a precision gearbox, motor, power electronics, encoder and safety functions into one compact unit with torque density of up to 200 Nm/kg, it is already in pilot use for knee, shoulder and wrist joints.

According to a September 8 announcement by Neugart, the High-Density Joint Actuator jointly developed by Neugart and Synapticon has been nominated for the automationsBest Award 2026 presented by Wiley. The award recognizes innovative technologies with significant relevance for industrial automation, and this nomination places the joint actuator among the most promising developments in humanoid robotics.

Specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of humanoid robots, the actuator integrates a precision gearbox, motor, power electronics, encoder and safety functions into a single compact unit. With a torque density of up to 200 Nm/kg, it sets new standards for the integration of high-performance joint drives. The modular platform covers a wide range of joint sizes and is already being used in pilot projects for knee, shoulder and wrist joints, laying the foundation for the next generation of industrially deployable humanoid robots.

Industry observers note that the nomination reflects how the humanoid supply chain is accelerating toward standardization and scale: leading players are no longer chasing single-parameter records, but compressing assembly steps and improving reliability and consistency through all-in-one integration of gearbox, motor, drive, encoder and functional safety — the critical path from prototype to volume production. Precision gear manufacturing and mass-industrialization experience accumulated in the automotive sector is being rapidly transferred into robotics through partnerships of this kind.

All-in-one joint modules are also a core product line at Chengdu Repunite Technology. Repunite's JTM series integrated joint modules (e.g. JTM-90-282, JTM-147-160) integrate a servo motor, gearbox, driver and encoder into a compact unit with CANopen/EtherCAT industrial bus support, offering high-torque-density, easy-to-integrate joint solutions for humanoid robots, quadrupeds and collaborative arms.
